APPLE: temptation.

ART, MODERN: terribly interesting and opinionated person who will turn out to have absolutely no substance.

BAT: darkness of the human soooooooul.

BIRD, CAGED: desire for escape. Primarily used in relation to a female character  trapped in an impossible economic situation out of which the readiest form of escape is a loveless marriage. Less commonly, used in relation to heterosexual white males longing to escape a patriarchal system designed and established to afford them every possible privilege.

BIRD OF PREY: woman, usually older, possibly dangerous.

BLOOD: tainted innocence, because menstruation.

BOARD GAME: when played by an adult male: virginity.

BOX: vagina (esp. when locked).

CAR: penis.

CAT: hopeless spinster, possibly disturbed. Also: emotional detachment.

CAVE: vagina.

CHESS: strategic conquest; usually of a woman, company, country, or other object towards which a man can have penis-feelings.

CORRIDOR: vagina.

CROCHET: see KNITTING

CROPS: fertility.

DOG: loyalty, unquestioning, possibly misguided.

DRESS, WEDDING: see WEDDING DRESS

EGG: birth, new life.

EXERCISE, REPETITIVE: emotional repression.

FEDORA: in a film made after 1980: dickhead.

FEATHER: when worn in hat: penis.

FLOOD: debauchery, or punishment for excess.

GUN: penis.

HEN: maternity.

HYSSOP: purity, purification. Not that you’d know, because have you ever seen and recognised hyssop? What even is hyssop? I mean, I’ve googled it now, so I know, but it just looks like rosemary TBH.

ICE CREAM: saddy sad sadness of the lonesome-hearted.

IRIS: vagina.

JIGSAW PUZZLE: woman.

KNITTING: quirky and eccentric young woman. Destined to become an object of desire for the hero; by the end of the film will have been coerced against her better judgment into a one-sided relationship which will inevitably leave her with almost no time for needlecrafts.

LIGHTNING: unconstrained and uncontrollable power.

MANGO: sensuality.

MOUNTAIN: penis.

MUSIC, LISTENING TO: emotional memories resurfacing.

OPERA: heightened emotional stakes.

ORCHARD: feminine secrets.

PEACH (or other stone fruit): tremblingly ripe but fragile nascent feminine sexuality.

PENIS: vulnerability.

ROSE, FULL BLOWN: sexually mature woman, possibly dangerous.

ROSEBUD: virginity.

SNAKE: penis.

SWORD: penis.

TRAIN: penis.

UKELELE: see KNITTING.

UNICORN: radiant innocence.

WATER, LARGE BODY OF: mysterious mysteries.

WATER: purification.

WEDDING DRESS: worn by a young bride or bride-to-be: the fulfillment of all earthly dreams and desires. Worn by a non-bride: mad spinster, possibly dangerous to the male protagonist.
