Vietnam Vernacular

In which our heroes leave the comfort of their Marrickvillian Vietnamese restaurants and go to the source…

When discussing where we would go on our next overseas trip, like Japan, it was the food that helped decide the destination. In a year of living in Marrickville we’ve embraced dining on pho, bun, pork rolls and the like. A year living in Marrickville also means it’s been a year of mortgage repayments, so budget was a consideration. Combine those two facts and a cheap but tasty holiday in Vietnam seemed a logical choice.

After much reading of Lonely Planet, Trip Advisor, as well as watching some Luke Nguyen, we came up with the following plan:

Ho Chi Minh City -> Cat Tien -> Dalat -> Hoi An -> Hanoi -> Halong Bay -> Cat Ba -> Trang An -> Hanoi -> Phu Quoc

So here we are, in Ho Chi Minh, ready for adventure. As with Japan, we’ll be hoping to blog daily (though I think wifi may be a limiting factor in a few areas), so stay tuned for all the highlights and lowlights. Feel free to comment with any tips, suggestions or just to say hi – always nice to know who’s following along.

  1. We are following along with our Lonely Planet open at Ho Chi Minh City, and I see that there is a War remnants museum, once called The Museum of Chinese and American War Crimes. The pamphlet there is entitled, “Some pictures of US Imperialists’ Aggressive War Crimes in Vietnam.”
